Vineyard Haven Fireworks

I just COULDN’T put this book down. I finished reading it around three in the morning with tears in my eyes. It was such an amazing book! Melody Carlson is one of my favorite authors. Reading a book by her that’s part of the “Love Finds You” series just made it even better!

Love Finds You in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts by Melody Carlson is a great book. I actually ordered if off of Amazon. I really liked the series, so I went online to find out more: http://lovefindsyou.wordpress.com/about/. When I saw that Melody Carlson had written a couple of them, I HAD to get them!

When I read the back cover of the book, I thought it sounded okay. Knowing Melody Carlson, I knew that I would be in for a surprise. As I began reading the book I thought it was really interesting.

Artist Waverly Brennan wants to start over. Her mother Vivian McDaniel calls to tell her that she and her sister have purchased a gallery and want Waverly to help run it. Ready for a new job and wanting to leave Chicago, Waverly is eager to work in a classy art gallery. To her dismay, the business venture isn’t quite what she thought it would be.

Away from the public eye, Blake Erikson is semiretired and is happy to leave Hollywood. After a few months at Martha’s Vineyard, he finds out that his daughter Sicily is coming to stay with him for the summer. He can’t wait to see his little girl, until she arrives “acting like a teenager.” However, before Sicily enters the scene he meets his new neighbors, two older women who have a close relationship. Greatly enjoying their company, he cuts a path in the grass between their houses. He doesn’t realize until later that he just might regret his decision.

I LOVE the characters in this book! They are all so different, yet alike and interesting! I liked Waverly Brennan from the start. Through her love of art, I found myself relating to her. Reading about the loss of her husband made me feel for her.

I loved  Waverly’s mother, Vivian McDaniel, again, right from the start. In her earlier days she was a wandering gypsy, but now she has settled in an actual house with her sister, hoping that her daughter will join them. Vivian has a big heart. She has great advice for anyone who will really listen. I found Vivian’s comical comments about everything hilariously funny!

Vivian’s sister, Louise Grant, or “Aunt Lou,” is a typical older lady character. At times she drove me crazy, but other times it was just fun to laugh at her.

Louise’s daughter, Janice Grant, also comes to visit Martha’s Vineyard. Before she even comes, Louise has already put Janice and Blake together in her mind. Janice seems like a harmless person, a politician who REALLY gets attached to people. Janice is the character that I love to dislike. She is dreadfully annoying most of the time, and it sure was fun to see her embarrassed.

Blake Erikson is an awesome character. He doesn’t mind being set up with Janice (she is nice to look at). What he doesn’t know is how hard it will be to get rid of her later on. Blake just wants to be a good father. He wishes he could have his little girl back, instead of the sassy, video-game loving girl who is with him. He tries everything that he can to get his daughter back.

Blake’s daughter Sicily is adorable. I absolutely love her! When Sicily meets Waverly, she is instantly attached. Waverly also loves to spend time with the little girl. I love reading their interactions, it is quite adorable.

When Blake and Waverly meet, they are instantly put off by each other. The way they react to each other makes me think of magnets. Facing one way, the magnets set each other off and won’t connect, but eventually the magnets turn around and are instantly attracted to each other.

This book is amazing. Melody Carlson has written yet another great book! All throughout this book I laughed my head off, had tears in my eyes, and the ending made me nearly cry with joy! I recommend reading this book to all females.
